SNAE!

Now with the temperatures in the 90s, it's kind of nice to think of snow. As in "it's very, very far away from us at the moment."

Forbidden -- and Really Weird -- Love

Again our son, a student of comic strips from a young age -- comes up with another good nonsequitur. You have to wonder if the amorous alien is the one who chose the pizza delivery location.

VOTE SCOOTER!

Scooter is back, after a brief absence. And is running for president of the Dork Club, evidently. He should aim higher.

Pop-Up Toaster

I'm kinda glad I don't have a pop-up desk.

Socks with Sandals

When I showed my kids this video:
I knew a drawing inspired by it would be inevitable, given the guffaws. Even though I had to explain the humor -- several times -- they still guffawed. Here's the drawing. I think our oldest did a fine job keeping Scooter identifiable as a character, even through the troll face.

Cartoon Explosion

I'm in a bit of a panic here at My Kids' Refrigerator. School has started up again and the new art is pouring in like so much late summer rain. I've still got lots of old art, many of it aged quite a bit. So the next few posts are going to be an explosion of artwork unparalleled on this blog before. Today, I present a Cartoon Explosion.

Who among us has not heard the evil chuckle of the Division Gremlin? I heard that evil little laugh the first day I learned that when you divide, sometimes there's stuff left over.

I'm not sure I understand this one.

This one, however, is all too clear. It's also a Foxtrot ripoff. Relax, Mr. Amend. He's 12 years old and learning the trade.

This one's like a Terry Pratchett novel. It's the little details -- like the magazine titles -- that make the difference.

Noxious socks. Even worse than the Division Gremlin.

Unfortunately, the back to this one is lost to the great paper recycling bin of time.

Then the snake letters. Pee-Wee Herman feels his pain.

Coat of Arms

Unfortunately, I've misplaced our oldest's interpretation of this coat of arms, which he drew for himself at school. It features LEGO, of course, and his Scooter cartoon character. I've forgotten, however, what the Latinish wording means . . .

UPDATE: Found his explanation of the logo, here in all its glory:

Scooter: Character Study and Weiner Shenanigans

Character sketches, just like the pros.

And weirdness. Just like the pros.

Challenge: Find the Elves

Our oldest really loves those pictures in which you have to find the random objects carefully drawn into the design. So he thought he'd make one of his own. With his patented sense of humor.

Ned the Napkin

Once again, I do not know where he comes up with his ideas.

Uhhh Boy . . .

I know it's been a week since I updated this blog. But let the comic above illustrate why it's been so long. Also, we've sold our house and are in the process of moving. Good timing, since we can box up our clothes and such and kill the head lice that way.

A Request

Well, two requests actually.

The fame that comes from having drawings posted on this blog is getting to our kids. They always want to see whose art is on top of the pile. So today, our oldest brought me these two drawings and insisted they go up on the blog tonight. So enjoy.

We've got a little bit of copying going on here. The zombie farm is reminiscent of Gary Larson's infamous last moments of D.B. Cooper comic, in which we see the ill-fated hijacker dropping into a rottweiler farm. But I do like Scooter's bugged-out eyes.

Dodgeball

Ah, yes. Dodgeball. The deadliest sport known to mankind.

Camping Wimps

I've been on campouts like this. I've been the one of many hiding out in the tent. I've also been one of the few on the outside, trying to get things going again. I like being on the outside better.

Tootsie Formula

This Professor Frink-like character is starting to show up in our oldest's comics with increasing regularity. I like the detail of him holding the book open with one finger.

How Are My Pores?

More mayhem from Scooter, this time visiting Yellowstone National Park.

Just What I Thought

Another Scooter comic here, featuring a comic cat. Yes, our oldest is also inspired by Garfield -- inspired enough that he's literally worn out at least a half dozen Garfield books from reading them. Of course, leaving them on the floor to be stomped on also probably aided in their general deterioration.

FOOOOM!

The Devil's Baseball. Again, I don't know where he gets the ideas, but I am certainly glad they come.

Guardian Angel

Once again, I don't know where he gets the ideas for some of his Scooter comics, but I'm sure glad they come. This is my favorite of the year so far.

Legacy Comics

Here's an odd little legacy from the printed comics page that many kids of our odlest's age probably isn't familiar with -- the name plate. That's what I call it, I'm sure it's got an official name but I don't know what it is. Anyway, it's just the artiste going all hooptedoodle with the name of the comic strip. Our oldest got his intro to comics by reading the comics page from his grampa's newspaper, so he's coming into the trade the old-fashioned way.
